The core consists of more then just your abdominal muscles (Rectus abdominal, Transverse abdominal, and Oblique abdominal.) It consists of the muscles in your back, as well as those connected to your pelvis bone. Your entire trunk is your core.
Having a strong core is important for supporting your vertebrae and for balance, this is important for everyday life as well as fitness.
Here are some great core exercises I set up. Some were once I taught in my group exercise class, and others are some that I like to do at home.
